The Ondo State Government has announced its plans to invest in the Sunshine Stars youth team to develop local football talent. This decision follows the Sunshine Stars U17 team’s failure to advance to the playoff stage of the inaugural NPFL Youth League.
During an unexpected visit to the team’s training ground, Hon. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, the state commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, assured the players of the government’s support. I’m here today to identify with you and assure you of our support, Yusuf Ogunleye said. Before we go outside to sign players for Sunshine Stars, we would have promoted some of you to the team, which means we will just add a few from the outside to make our team.
Yusuf Ogunleye also emphasized the state’s ambition to revive the success of the OSFODEC era, which produced notable players like Abe Sunday, Dayo Ojo, and Geoffrey Oboabona.
