NFF President Highlights Role of Local Tournaments in Talent Discovery

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, has reiterated that the primary goal of local football tournaments is to discover and nurture emerging talents rather than promote sponsors. Speaking at the trophy presentation for the NFF President Football Tournament, a pre season event for Nigeria National League clubs, Gusau urged organizers to ensure that local teams from Kaduna, the host state, participate to offer young, untested players valuable exposure.

The tournament is organized by Babs Integrated Services, led by former Nigerian international Tijjani Babangida, who also chairs the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria PFAN. Babangida praised Gusau’s support during a personal tragedy and shared his vision of making the event an annual showcase for grassroots talent in partnership with the Kaduna State Football Association.

Scheduled to take place at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna from November 12 to 20, 2024, the tournament will feature clubs from the NNL, with the aim of boosting grassroots football across Nigeria.
