Czech second tier side Banik Ostrava have secured the signatures of Nigerian youngsters Comfort Folorunsho and Adaobi Okah, both members of Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets.

Folorunsho, a commanding defender, makes the move from Nigeria Women Premier League champions Edo Queens, with whom she lifted the league title last season. Before her stint in Benin City, she also played for Delta Queens, another prominent NWFL side.

Okah, a forward, joins from the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. Before heading abroad, she had also featured for Edo Queens and Remo Stars Ladies in the Nigerian league.

Banik Ostrava are ambitious in their push for promotion to the Czech Republic’s top-flight women’s division, and the addition of the two Nigerian talents is expected to bolster their squad as the season progresses.

Editorial

We are delighted to see two more promising Nigerian women leaping European football. Comfort Folorunsho and Adaobi Okah represent the best of what grassroots and youth football development in Nigeria can produce — talent, resilience, and ambition.

Their signings by Banik Ostrava not only validate their journeys but also reflect a growing confidence in Nigerian footballers within the global women’s game. These young women have risen through the domestic ranks, performed at international youth levels, and are now taking their skills to the competitive European scene.

But what makes this particularly significant is the dual background of both players. Folorunsho’s rise through the NWFL system is a testament to the domestic league’s potential. Okah’s blend of local and American collegiate experience highlights the diverse routes Nigerian footballers are now taking to reach the top.

We must continue to invest in scouting, development, and structured pathways for our female athletes. For every Comfort and Adaobi, countless others are waiting for their opportunity. The Nigerian system needs to ensure they are not only discovered but also nurtured, protected, and given the chance to thrive both at home and abroad.

As for Banik Ostrava, they’ve made a smart move. The hunger, discipline, and flair these Falconets bring could be the edge they need in their promotion bid. Nigerian players have a history of making an impact and these two won’t be any different.
