Conceição Targets Super Eagles Coach Role Post Peseiro

António Conceição, the former head coach of the Cameroon national team, has officially expressed his interest in becoming the next coach of the Super Eagles, following the vacancy created by Jose Peseiro’s exit. The Nigeria Football Federation NFF declared the position open after unsuccessful negotiations with Peseiro, whose contract concluded last month without an agreement on an extension due to salary disagreements.

Peseiro sought a monthly salary of $120,000, while the NFF’s final offer stood at $80,000 a figure Peseiro declined. Conceição, who previously guided Cameroon to a third place finish at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, is also considering a return to the Cameroon national team.

This marks Conceição’s second attempt to secure the Super Eagles coaching role, having been overlooked last time in favour of Peseiro. Under Peseiro’s tenure, Nigeria achieved a runner up finish at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, meeting the NFF’s semi final expectation but ultimately falling short in the final against the hosts.
