NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko Rewards Super Eagles B ₦10M for CHAN Victory

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission NSC, has fulfilled his promise to reward the Super Eagles B team with ₦10 million following their remarkable 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies in Uyo. The win secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 8th African Nations Championship CHAN, scheduled to take place in February 2025.

The initial pledge was proposed by NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade ahead of the high stakes match, but Mallam Dikko took it upon himself to donate a show of appreciation. “Before the game, I made a personal pledge to reward the team if they emerged victorious,” said Hon. Olopade. “When I shared this with Mallam Shehu Dikko, he immediately applauded the idea but insisted on donating himself.”

Hon. Olopade commended Dikko’s passion for Nigerian football, stating, “It was a heartfelt moment that truly shows his dedication to the sport and the athletes who represent our nation. His generosity has further motivated the team, and we are incredibly grateful for his leadership.”

The Super Eagles B delivered an electrifying performance at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, dominating the first half with goals from Sodiq Ismaila, Nduka Junior, and Saviour Isaac in the 18th, 21st, and 25th minutes respectively. While Stephen Amenkona scored a consolation goal for Ghana in the 71st minute, Nigeria held firm to secure a well deserved victory.

The 2025 CHAN tournament, exclusive to players competing in domestic African leagues, will take place from February 1 to 28 and will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
