Chuks Akuneto, a UK based Nigerian coach, has confidently expressed his qualifications for leading the Nigeria U17 team, the Golden Eaglets. Holding a UEFA A license, Akuneto boasts a rich coaching background in India and England, transitioning into coaching after a 15 year playing career across five countries.
Akuneto, who has applied for the head coach position of the cadet team, believes his extensive experience in player development and coaching program design makes him the ideal candidate. Coaching Nigeria U17 is my aspiration. I have a proven track record in developing players and my coaching methods have successfully transitioned numerous players from academy to professional first teams, Akuneto stated.
His coaching credentials include stints as FC Manchester’s manager, head coach roles at Stockport County FC for the U18 and U23 teams, and the first team coach at Radcliffe Borough FC. Additionally, he has managed the reserve and youth teams of Mohammedan Sporting Club in India and currently leads the Oldham Athletic U19 team.
Akuneto’s involvement in scouting and youth player development notably includes his work in Kenya in 2015, where he discovered national team captain Michael Olunga, Justin Omurwa, and Amos Nondi, among others.
