Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have kicked off their training camp at the Remo Stars Sports Institute, Ikenne-Remo, ahead of their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying double header against South Africa’s Bantwana. As bronze medallists at the 2022 World Cup, the Flamingos earned a bye into the second round, while South Africa advanced after a dominant 21-2 aggregate victory over Gabon.
NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi stressed the importance of early preparation due to the competitive nature of matches against South Africa. Flamingos coach Bankole Olowookere, who led the team to a third-place finish in 2022, has invited 30 players to camp, including key figures like goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma and forwards Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong.
The first leg of the qualifier will be held between March 7-and 16 as the teams battle for a spot at the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
