Teen Star Adegbuyi Leads Robo Queens in 3-0 Win Over Rivers Angels

Fourteen year old Kemi Adegbuyi emerged as the standout performer in Robo Queens’ sensational 3-0 win over Rivers Angels on Wednesday, ending the visitors’ 10-match unbeaten run in the NWFL Premiership. The commanding victory at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, saw the young striker announce her arrival on the big stage.

Adegbuyi pounced early on a defensive error from Rivers goalkeeper Angel Mgbechi to slot home the opener, setting the tone for a dominant display. Mariam Yahaya and Opeyemi Ajakaye added their names to the scoresheet, completing a comprehensive win for the Lagos based side.

Following the match, head coach Emmanuel Osahon praised his team’s clinical execution and commitment to youth development. “We took our chances, and sometimes possession doesn’t win games,” he said.

Osahon, known for developing future Super Falcons stars, emphasised the team’s long-term vision. “These girls are young and blending well. About nine of them are in their first NWFL season. Promoting them from the reserve team took hard work and belief,” he added.

Robo Queens now sit third in the league table with 19 points from 11 games, three ahead of Naija Ratels. With top-two spots already sealed by Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels, the Lagos side is firmly in the race for a Super Six playoff spot.

Editorial

What a statement from Robo Queens. On a day when experience met the youth, it was the energy and fearlessness of Lagos’ rising stars that stole the show. And at the heart of it all was a teenager Kemi Adegbuyi whose brilliance silenced one of the NWFL’s most dominant teams.

Fourteen years old. Let that sink in. In a league that demands physicality, intelligence, and tactical discipline, Adegbuyi proved that talent knows no age. Her early goal was not just opportunistic it was fearless, composed, and impactful. That’s what you want in a forward. That’s what wins games.

Coach Emmanuel Osahon deserves immense credit. It takes courage to field such a young squad in a competitive league. But he’s building something bigger than just a team he’s creating a system, a pathway, a legacy. These aren’t just players; they’re investments in the future of Nigerian women’s football.

This win goes beyond three points. It disrupts the hierarchy, re-energises the league, and sends a message: Robo Queens are not here to participate they’re here to contend. And with Adegbuyi leading the charge, we may be witnessing the rise of another Nigerian football icon.

We’ll be watching. So should the nation.
