This was highlighted during a visit by international scouts to the Acting Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Lawrence Ewhurdjakpo, represented by Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Daniel Igali.
Igali stated that this initiative aligns with Governor Douye Diri’s vision of propelling Bayelsa’s young players onto the global stage. Reflecting on the success of past efforts, he revealed that five young players are set for European trials, thanks to platforms like the Governor’s Prosperity Cup tournament.
Hilary Azodo, Director of OTP Finland and coordinator of the scouting programme lauded Bayelsa’s peaceful environment, while Ono Akpe, Director General of the Governor’s Football Tournament, emphasised the programme’s focus on talent identification and international opportunities. The three day scouting event featured prominent scouts and coaches, reinforcing Bayelsa’s drive to uplift its youth through sports.
