Nigerian Lawmakers Push for Nationwide Ban on Sports Betting

This activity translates to an astonishing 975 million dollars spent daily on online sports betting, totaling about 356 billion dollars annually. The repercussions of this include strained or broken relationships, financial distress, legal complications, and job losses due to excessive losses or debts.

In response, the House has recommended that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation initiate a comprehensive nationwide campaign to educate the public on the adverse effects of youth involvement in sports betting. Furthermore, it has tasked the Committee on Inter-Governmental Affairs to conduct a Public Hearing on the perilous impacts of sports betting in Nigeria, with a directive to report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
