FC Copenhagen has announced the loan of German Onugkha to Vejle Boldklub for the remainder of the 2024–2025 season. The 28 year old striker returns to Vejle for a second spell, having been their top scorer in the Danish Superliga last season with 15 goals in 31 matches.
Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, Onugkha has expressed his openness to representing the Nigerian national team, having previously declined a call-up to the Russian national team in September 2024. Despite joining FC Copenhagen last summer, Onugkha struggled for playing time, featuring in just seven games five starts without scoring.
FC Copenhagen’s sports director, Sune Smith-Nielsen, acknowledged that Onugkha’s opportunities at the club diminished over time. “As the season progressed, the hierarchy shifted, and German is no longer at the forefront of the battle for playing time,” Smith Nielsen noted, adding that the move to Vejle offers the player more opportunities on the pitch.
